The current trends in policing costs and administration have become unsustainable and are putting municipalities at risk. Municipalities are told how and when police services will be provided and then sent a bill. They have very little control over the expenditure.

By law, municipal councils must be accountable to their taxpayers for the money they collect. In the case of policing, this accountability does not exist.

Simply put, the high costs associated with policing in Ontario are threatening the sustainability of our communities.

Infrastructure maintenance, capital projects and social services are all being sacrificed as municipalities struggle to pay for a provincial service over which they have virtually no control.

The Mayors Coalition exists to achieve reforms and evolve the current model of policing A.S.A.P.

We are a consortium of municipalities seeking a new partnership model with the province where accountability is shared--or the complete removal of policing costs from the municipal tax levy.
